See Who's Editing Wikipedia - Diebold, the CIA, a Campaign

advertisement

A new data-mining service launched Monday traces millions of Wikipedia entries to their corporate sources, and for the first time puts comprehensive data behind longstanding suspicions of manipulation, which until now have surfaced only piecemeal in investigations of specific allegations.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It is an interesting conumdrum. On the one hand public entities should have right to make sure that the information on Wikipedia is fair and accurate. On the other hand they shouldn't be allowed to delete legitimate criticscims and issues.

I think probably the best thing a public entity can do is be open about changes they make and provide documentation supporting anything they add or remove.

Either that or learn how to use TOR to make changes.

But can we believe that as I fear the propaganda war from the political forum is increasing on the WWW if we now go to look at the online encyclopedia were properly find the changes have been amended back but where is the proof the changes have been made in the first place.

The point is this encyclopedia has already been under attacked that it is left winged based. There is a war going on on the internet that in my opinion will only cool down after the election.

I have looked at this on line encyclopedia and can not for the life of me find any political leaning. I have used it for political reference and posted them in comments to see a reaction, no reaction so far.

    Well all the changes are recorded and the entire history is stored. And really you shouldn't be using one single source for research...especially if that source is open to manipulation to everyone on the web.

      @Babel Fish
      You're talking about all that liberal bias that is being battle by the Conservipedia, I think. Now that's paranoia!

      The problem with paranoia its easy to catch, being wise is the only preventive immunization.
